An Introduction to Mind-Body Approaches to Treating Chronic Pain & Symptoms with Psychotherapy
Amy Schere, LCSWA
About this training
As therapists, we know that in addition to mental health symptoms, our clients often present with physical symptoms, including chronic pain, that have a profound effect on their lives. Many clinicians find addressing these symptoms challenging and are unsure where to begin. This course aims to help clinicians understand the mind-body connection present with many of these symptoms and learn frameworks for beginning to address these symptoms with clients. In this training, you will learn how to: 1. Explain at least three psychological and neuroscience mechanisms by which the brain generates and perpetuates chronic pain and other neuroplastic symptoms. 2. Demonstrate how to provide psychoeducation to clients about neuroplastic (mind-body) symptoms, including addressing at least two common barriers to client acceptance. 3. Describe the core principles of Pain Reprocessing Therapy and demonstrate the somatic tracking technique for use with clients presenting with neuroplastic symptoms. 4. Describe the core principles of Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy and apply at least one EAET technique with clients presenting with neuroplastic symptoms. 5. Compare treatment considerations across at least two special populations (e.g., clients with co-occurring trauma, neurodivergence, or OCD) who experience chronic pain and neuroplastic symptoms. 📅 Date: Saturday, November 14th @ 9AM - 4:30PM (Includes 1-hour break for lunch 12PM-1PM * lunch provided) 📍 Location: 5401 Six Forks Road, Suite 200 | Raleigh, NC 🎓 CE Credit: 6 CE Hours 🧑🏫 Format: In-person 🍴 Lunch will be provided (vegetarian/vegan/GF options available upon request) Please email dietary considerations to: dakota@3rdwavetherapy.com About the Presenter: Amy is a psychotherapist based in Raleigh, North Carolina.
