How To Be A Therapist When the World is On Fire

About this training
When the World Is on Fire: Remaining Grounded as a Therapist During Times of Collective Uncertainty The world doesn't stop when clients come to therapy—and neither do the headlines, political conflict, systemic injustice, natural disasters, or collective grief. As therapists, we are often carrying many of the same fears and uncertainties as the people we serve while being asked to remain a steady, compassionate presence. This experiential training is designed for LMSWs, LGPCs, LCPCs, LCSW-Cs, and other mental health professionals who want practical, ethical, and sustainable strategies for providing effective therapy during times of societal upheaval. Participants will explore how to differentiate their own emotional responses from those of their clients, remain grounded when uncertainty feels overwhelming, and navigate conversations about political and systemic stressors without losing their clinical footing. Rather than focusing on having the "right" answers, this training emphasizes developing a therapeutic stance that is anchored, flexible, and values-driven. Participants will leave with concrete skills they can immediately apply in session, as well as strategies to protect their own well-being and prevent burnout while continuing to provide high-quality care. Learning Objectives -By the end of this training, participants will be able to: -Distinguish personal anxiety from client anxiety. -Identify what is and is not within their control. -Stay clinically grounded during societal upheaval. -Talk with clients about political and systemic stressors without becoming overwhelmed. -Sustain themselves professionally without needing certainty about the future. -Apply practical skills and interventions that support both clinician well-being and client resilience. Please note that this training is not yet approved for CEUs
